A serendipitous variable X-ray source was discovered using the LE experiment of the EXOSAT satellite. It is identified with a starlike object of 18m and 1950 coordinates alpha = 11h 02m 47s, delta = +25deg 23 min 2. An IDS spectrum obtained with the ESO 3.6m telescope shows H alpha and H beta redshifted with z = 0.095. The FWHM of the lines is 700 km/sec. No forbidden-line emission is seen above the noise level. An observation with the 100m Effelsberg radio telescope failed to detect the source above a 3 sigma limit of 6 mJy at 4.9 GHz. The object seems to be radio quiet and to belong to a class of red weak-line active galactic nuclei.
