Numerical simulation is used to study the generation of an Alfven wave in the ionosphere and magnetosphere during the injection of energetic ions. It is shown that an oblique Alfven wave with an amplitude accessible to observation on a subsatellite will be excited for ion-beam parameters typical for the APEX project. Characteristic features of the dynamics of a generated Alfven-wave pulse in the real inhomogeneous ionosphere are clarified; the most important of these features is the excitation of the oscillations of an ionospheric Alfven resonator.
