The excitation and damping of transversal coronal loop oscillations is studied using the model of interaction between a shock force connected with the eruption of solar flares and coronal loops. The damping of transversal loop oscillations is not related to any dissipation mechanism but is simply produced by the interaction between the oscillating loop and the outside magnetized medium. In this paper we considered the damping proportional to the displacement velocity. The damping mode generated with this model is consistent with the TRACE observational data and offers the possibility to compute the percentage of the shock energy transferred into transversal motion and so, this will be a very good instrument for coronal magnetohydrodynamic seismology.
