An evolutionary scenario of lunar manufacturing from its beginning to self-sufficient and self-reproductive phase is studied. The accumulation on the Moon of facilities and feedstocks by early lunar activities gives a crucial base from which an embryo of lunar manufacturing begins developing. Production of lunar base supplies evolves to the early manufacturing on the Moon. Gradual expansion, reconstruction and repair of the base demand the supply of indigenous production from lunar materials. Serial construction of solar power plants requires a continuous supply of iron and glass, which can be locally supplied. Construction of a self-sufficient manufacturing infrastructure itself will be an international project of the next generation. Commercial lunar production will follow when sufficient infrastructure has been accumulated on the Moon. Robotic exploration, in-situ experiments and robotic construction of a manned lunar base prior to the human return to the Moon will provide technical basis for self-sufficient lunar manufacturing.
