A nonlinear equation of the evolution of planetary-scale disturbances of
the temperature field is obtained for the vertically averaged baroclinic
atmosphere. In the adiabatic approximation, this equation is reduced to
a simple-wave equation relative to the mean temperature of vertical air
columns. The effect of nonadiabatic factors is also taken into account.
