Magnetic and SEABEAM bathymetric data obtained during the 'Thomas Washington' survey of the area north of the Antarctic-Nazca-Pacific tripple junction at 35 deg S have confirmed the existence of the Juan Fernandez microplate. An analysis is presently conducted of the magnetic anomaly data. The origin of the microplate lies at about 2 million years ago, when the western boundary began to accrete. The evolution of the microplate corresponds to a transfer of accretion from the eastern boundary to the western axis.
