We have developed a 2D full-wave propagation code with arbitrary direction of propagation to the magnetic field and the plasma density. This wave equation is coupled to the density equation and the electron temperature equation and therefore can investigate the self-consistent evolution of the density and temperature caused by the heater wave. We will present detailed results of the spatio-temporal evolution of the plasma near the lower hybrid layer and compare them to observations made at Tromso, with a high spatial and temporal resolution multi-frequency Doppler radar system. The comparison of our simulations shows that dominantly the transport of the temperature and the density along the fieldline determine the characteristic features of the observed modification of the ionospheric density in the vicinity of the upper hybrid layer.
