The approximation of solar-wind plasma as a cold unmagnetized gas of noninteracting particles is used to analyze the evolution and properties of strong inhomogeneities of velocity and density in the solar wind. The main energy of the inhomogeneities is concentrated in the direction of proton motion; the electric fields are weak and have little effect on ion motion; the dynamics of such inhomogeneities is fully determined by ion motion; strong localized disturbances disperse in sufficiently long periods of time.
