In the present paper, data obtained from an experiment involving the injection of a barium cloud into the ionosphere are analyzed on the basis of a model in which isothermal diffusion and charged particle mobility are the dominant processes. The ionospheric disturbances resulting from barium injection are determined, and the mechanisms of development and motion of a high-density barium cloud in the ionosphere are identified.
