Vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) images of the core of the Perseus cluster of galaxies were obtained using the Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (UIT) during the Astro-1 space shuttle mission in December 1990. Comparison images in U, B, V, and R were obtained using the KPNO 0.9m telescope and Tectronics 2048 CCD. Thirteen of the fourteen galaxies detected by UIT are weak ultraviolet sources, with VUV vs. optical colors which are normal for their morphological types. The giant elliptical galaxy NGC1275 is the brightest cluster VUV source by several magnitudes and is significantly bluer than even the cluster spiral galaxies.
