The authors suggest a simple method to compute the evolution of semi-detached close binaries having secondaries with degenerate helium cores and losing momentum via magnetic stellar wind. They employ the results of computations to estimate the initial parameters of some low-mass (M1+M2 ⪉ 5 M_sun;) Algols under assumptions of conservative and non-conservative mass exchange. It has been shown that the assumption of conservative mass exchange leads to contradicting initial parameters, while assumption of momentum loss via magnetic stellar wind allows to resolve these contradictions.
