The observations reported were made with electron spectrometers during a rocket flight in which an altitude of 420 km was reached. The rocket flight took place on Nov. 3, 1968, during the magnetically most disturbed period of 1968. The aurora encountered was a diffuse aurora without any notable structures. On the basis of the obtained data it is concluded that the auroral electrons in the morning sector are injected from the plasma sheet during a substorm and are subsequently diffused by an energy-dependent mechanism.
