A map of the linear optical polarization of the Sombrero Galaxy (M104) in the B waveband is presented. The map provides the first clear evidence for the existence of a magnetic field which maintains the same projected direction over an estimated volume of some 1000 cu kpc. The observations were made with the aid of a 1-m telescope during the period from May 20 to 24, 1976.
