The authors report the results of a search for periodic signals in the ROSAT HRI light curves (0.1-2 keV) of the 13 brightest X-ray sources in M31. The data were obtained on 1990 July 25-28 for a total exposure of ≡48000 s. The authors detected pulsations at ≡77 s from HRI 004008+4059 at a confidence level of ≡3.7σ. They also report evidence for a ≡3 s periodic modulation from HRI 004010+4059; in this case, however, the significance is lower (≡2.8σ). Both sources have luminosities close to 1038erg/s such that large period derivatives are expected. If confirmed, these sources would be the first X-ray pulsators detected beyond the Magellanic Clouds.
