The Time Domain Sampler (TDS) of the SWAVES experiment on the STEREO spacecraft has captured highly modulated intense Langmuir wave packets during several local solar type III radio bursts. These wave packets are characterized by (1) the normalized peak energy densities (WL)/(n_eT_e), well exceeding the threshold for the modulational or long wavelength oscillating two stream instability (OTSI), (2) the spectra, containing the resonant peak at the local electron plasma frequency, fpe, and two or more secondary peaks at slightly lower than fpe as well as at slightly higher than fpe corresponding to Stokes and anti-Stokes modes, respectively, and low frequency enhancements < 450 Hz. The peak intensities, spatial scales and side-band spectral structures strongly suggest that these wave packets are undergoing OTSI. Some of these wave packets are extremely coherent and intense, and of short duration, with spatial scales and peak intensities consistent with those of the collapsing Langmuir solitons formed as a result of OTSI. The tri-coherence analysis confirms the results inferred from the spectral analysis of the waveforms that the sidebands and the low frequency waves are probably the daughter products of the four wave interaction, namely the oscillating two stream instability.
