Data for the astrophysical S-factor and the angular distribution for the three-nucleon transfer reaction 7Li (p, α)4He are now available from ECM = 13 KeV to 1 MeV. Analysis of these data was performed in the framework of a direct reaction theory (DWBA). The excellent agreement between experiment and theory provides strong evidence for a direct reaction mechanism at thermonuclear energies.
