Two-Body Problem: Numerical Methods
Scientific paper
A complete review of the solution methods for Kepler's equation in recent thirty years was conducted. It includes two aspects: formulae for initial values and their revise methods. The authors found that Markley's initial value is the most accurate but not efficient enough. The authors' conclusion is that the third order Halley's method proposed by Odell & Gooding and Niejenhuis respectively, forms the most efficient algorithm, which can also assure its convergence.
