The electromagnetic components of a hadronic shower are investigated with focus on pions and iron kernels. A Monte Carlo simulation program was developed: CORSIKA (German acronym for cosmic ray simulations for cascade) is based on the simulation of strong interaction by high energies with an algorithm written from the dual parton model; the strong interaction by least energies was described by the isobar model and the electromagnetic part can be simulated with Nishimura-Kamata-Greisen formula. Simulation calculations allow lateral distribution and energy and number spectra of electrons, photons, hadrons and muons to be obtained. The dependence of shower parameters on primary energy was established. Results are found to agree with experimental data from magnetic spectrometry and scintillation counting measurements. Methods for primary particle identificiation, such as the covariance method and principal components analysis are proposed.
