Equations are derived for estimating two independent similarity parameters that are combinations of low-order coefficients of the radiative-transfer matrix for the scattering of polarized light. One set of equations requires only polarized radiation measurements of asymptotic irradiances and scalar irradiances that persist deep in the interior of an optically-thick medium, while a second set of equations requires only collimated zenith and nadir measurements.
