High-power, large aperture (HPLA) radars can provide accurate meteoroid velocities and trajectories which can be used to estimate their masses. Using observations from the 50MHz radar at the Jicamarca Radio Observatory in Peru, we find mass distributions for samples of sporadic and Eta-Aquariids shower particles. We use two different methods to calculate mass from this data. The first method searches for the best fit between an ablation model and the altitude and Doppler measurements along the trajectory of a meteor. The ablation model tests a range of initial mass and velocities until the predicted deceleration matches the observations [Bass et al. 2008]. The second method uses scattering theory, where the mass is calculated based on observed signal strength and a number of models [Close et al. 2005]. There is a rough agreement between the two methods, though there are some meteor measurements with appreciable differences. Between the two populations, the mass distribution for the sporadic meteoroids is broader than that of the shower particles.
