Within its overall responsibility for scientific operations development, the Science Operations and Data Systems Division of the European Space Agency's Research and Scientific Support Department (RSSD) carries the role of developing science archives, providing easy access to mission data for the scientific community worldwide. This new strategy has been put in place for various missions (ISO, XMM-NEWTON, INTEGRAL, MARS EXPRESS, ROSETTA, SMART-1), making use of the latest technologies (open architecture, Java, XML). A brief description of the existing operational archives is described as well as some usage statistics and some interoperability aspects in the context of the worldwide Virtual Observatory initiatives.
