In an adaptive optics system, the major error source is made up of the noise of the wavefront sensor, the uncompensated error induced by atmospheric turbulence and the fitting error of the deformable mirror. As for the infrared adaptive optics at the 2.16 m telescope of Beijing Astronomical Observatory, the closed-loop noise, the error caused by turbulence and the total error are analysed in terms of servo control loop. The total error of this adaptive optical closed-loop system is functions of the photon counting rates and the closed-loop bandwidth. The effectiveness of this adaptive optics system and the connection between the photon counting rates and the closed-loop bandwidth in different improvements of turbulence are also analysed. Furthermore, the optimal closed-loop bandwidth and the limiting magnitude of this adaptive optics system are derived.
