By means of discontinuous titration, the equivalent weight of humic acid
isolated from a peat was found to increase from 144 to 183 between the
third and fifty-second day after the humic acid was dissolved. Infra-red
studies showed that the material had probably condensed with loss of
carbonyl groups.
