We give a solution of the Bloch-McConnell equations that describes the magnetization of coupled spin populations under radio frequency irradiation. We show the equivalence of two different saturation experiments: magnetization transfer and spin-lock. Their steady-state magnetization and the dynamics of both are governed by the same single eigenvalue which turns out to be the relaxation rate in the rotating frame. We show that spin systems coupled by chemical exchange can be described by the proposed solution allowing quantification of pH-dependent exchange rates and metabolite concentration.
