The effects of photoexcitation and positron annihilation-excitation of 176Lug to 176Lum have been investigated. It is found that as a result of these two processes alone, 176Lug and 176Lum are in thermal equilibrium at temperatures ≥3.5×108K. This implies that 176Lu is not a reliable s-process chronometer.
