A three-dimensional numerical simulation of equatorial spread F (ESF) performed by enforcing the constraints of quasi-neutrality and momentum conservation is described. ESF stage of development is validated by comparison with ALTAIR radar observations. The magnetic inductions due to the simulated ionospheric currents are computed and compared to CHAMP satellite observations. The results show overall agreement and describe how ionospheric currents flow in the presence of ESF.
