The possible types of equations of state of an ideal fluid are determined directly from the integrability conditions of the Einstein equations. The Einstein equations are then used to specify the arbitrary relationship rho = rho(p) for an ideal fluid with omegaik = 0, where omegaik is the fluid particle spin tensor. It is shown that the Einstein equations admit solutions with rho not equal to rho(p).
