It is very difficult to find constant comparison stars, especially inside the instability strip. During a variability survey of stars inside the Prasepe cluster (Breger, M. 1970, ApJ 162, 597), on two nights HD 73819 was found to be constant to + 1 and + 3 millimag, respectively, without showing any clear variability . During a 1989 multisite campaign, the star was used as one of the two comparison stars and its variability in the millimag domain noticed immediately. At that time, the variability was briefly announced by two of the particpants in the campaign (Martin, B., Hube, D. P. 1989, IBVS 3324, 1) and the star subsequently was assigned the name EP Cnc.
