The Delta Scuti star FG Vir has been observed at la Silla Observatory (ESO) both photometrically in the V colour with the ESO 50 cm telescope and at high resolution spectroscopy (FWHM=0.13 A) with the 1.4 m CAT telescope. The photometric data are distributed over 8 nights from April 19 to May 3, 1992 and monitor the star for about 45 hours (792 data points). Their frequency analysis has shown the presence of a dominant mode with a frequency of 12.7 c/d and a semi-amplitude of 21.1 mmag. Other 6 modes with frequencies between 8 and 25 c/d and amplitudes between 2.8 and 4.8 mmag have been detected. We are quite confident that the identification of the four largest amplitude terms are free from ambiguities due to aliasing. They have the following frequencies: 9.7, 12.2 , 19.9, and 24.2 c/d.
