In the brick wall model the entropy of scalar fields is calculated in the backgrounds of three-dimensional black holes, black strings, and the Einstein metric of black strings, respectively. In all these cases the entropy is proportional to the length of the horizons and is linearly divergent. In addition, we find that the entropy of scalar fields in dual solutions keeps the same form as the one in the original solutions.
