We investigate the conditions for entanglement in a system of two atoms and two photon modes in a vacuum, using the Jaynes-Cummings model in the rotating-wave approximation. It is found that the strength of atom entanglement is a periodic function of time, generalizing the results of other workers. We explicitly show that our results are in agreement with existing results and reproduce existing entanglement conditions under appropriate limits. Results for the two-atoms two-photons system are generailzed to the case of arbitrary values for the atomic energies, relative to photon frequencies. We consider both the resonant and non-resonant conditions.
