A comparison is made of the different gravitational energy scalars
arising from energy pseudo-tensors and the Bel-Robinson tensor for plane
gravitational waves. The traditional choice of normal coordinates is
here avoided in favour of the selection of a suitable class of exact
solutions. The case of waves in sense of Hadamard is also considered.
