The supply of energetic electrons from a spiralling magnetospheric path to auroral atmospheric heights is considered. A progressive precipitation of part of the initial magnetospheric content is significantly modified by an accelerating electric field. The extent to which the resultant dispersion with height and with time is dependent upon the magnitude of the field is determined. Allowance is made for the critical pitch (and hence subsequent precipitation) dependence on the superimposed field. Persistence of precipitation from an unreplenished magnetosphere is indicated. Cut-off and renewed precipitation effects also become evident.
