We present energetic neutral atom (ENA) images of the ring current made in the energy range ~5-90 keV by the STE instrument onboard STEREO B at the altitudes of ~510-840 km and geomagnetic latitudes of ~6-19° N on the Earth's night side. This is the first ENA imaging of the ring current at energies below 26 keV from low Earth orbit. The observations show enhanced ENA emissions coming from around local midnight near the equator, associated with a very weak geomagnetic substorm (Dst >~ -8 nT and AE <~ 200 nT). The equatorial proton spatial distribution, pitch angle distribution, and energy spectrum are extracted from the ENA images by forward modeling using a parameterized ring-current model. The modeled protons show a day/night spatial asymmetry with a maximum flux at midnight. They have a "pancake" pitch angle distribution, in agreement with typical in situ observations during geomagnetic storms. The extracted proton energy spectrum agrees well with in situ proton measurements from the Los Alamos Magnetospheric Plasma Analyzer at 6.6 Re and 2043MLT.
