The Storm Time Equatorial Belt (STEB) observed by the low altitude polar orbiting NOAA satellites are compared with Energetic Neutral Atom (ENA) observations done by the IMAGE satellite. The STEB is produced by earthward traveling ENA from the equatorial part of the ring current and is observed as a belt around the geomagnetic equator. The observations by IMAGE give information on both Hydrogen and Oxygen ENA coming from the whole ring current. An analysis of the observations from these satellites reveal whether it is mostly Hydrogen or Oxygen that contribute to the STEB during the different phases of the storm.
