Identifications of ultraviolet emission lines of alpha Tau (K5 III) based on high dispersion IUE spectra are presented. In the long wavelength range, Fe I and Fe II emission lines and a possible Al II one in addition to the strong chromospheric MgII h and k resonance lines are identified. In the short-wavelength range only the prominent lines of OI, Si II and SI and the Ly alpha are identified. The absence of high temperature emission lines confirms that this late type giant does not have outer atmospheres hotter than 30,000 K.
