It is noted that Balbus and Hawley recently presented evidence for a powerful local instability of differentially rotating magnetic accretion disks. This paper examines the possibility that the process may also resolve the problem of element mixing in stellar interiors. When this possibility is examined, an essential difference is emphasized from the case of accretion disks.
