Gravitational Radiation: Detectors

Scientific paper

The authors analyze a multistrip electrostatic device developing forces of the order of 1 mN on a dielectric mirror. Such a device has been developed for controlling the orientation of suspended mirrors in long baseline interferometers used for detecting gravitational waves. The dependence of the force on the distance mirror-multistrip has been measured and the fitting with the computed value has been satisfactory in the range 0.5 - 3 mm.
