Regions of increased electron concentrations in the upper ionosphere and magnetosphere have been identified on the basis of observations of plasma wave emissions obtained by a spectrum analyzer on board the Prognoz-5 satellite. The occurrence of these regions is mainly associated with an ionospheric electron jet generated by the ultraviolet emission of the sun.
