True height electron density profiles are deduced from the ionograms taken at Gauhati (lat., 26 deg 10 min N; long. 91 deg 45 mine) on 16 Feb. 1980, a solar eclipse day. Constant electron density contours show a definite eclipse effect. A large increase in the height of the constant electron density levels, more pronounced at lower levels, is seen after first contact. The 'eclipse lag' is about 15 min at around 300 km. A long period wavelike oscillation observed at all electron density levels after the time of maximum obscuration could be eclipse generated.
