This paper reexamines the hypothesis of Chu and Ohkawa (1982) who argued for the existence of force-free fields in electromagnetic and plasma theory with the property that the electric field is parallel to the magnetic field. It is proved that electromagnetic fields with electric and magnetic components parallel to one another are solutions of Maxwell's equation and that the magnetic-field equation of Chu and Okhawa (criticized by several authors) is gauge- and relativistically-invariant for specific directions dictated by the electric and magnetic field.
