The velocity field of magnetospheric convection is determined from the equivalent stream function by using a simple model of the integral conductivity of the ionosphere with allowance for anisotropy. Attention is also given to the influence of convective transfers developing during magnetic storms and substorms at midlatitudes on the structure of the ionosphere. As an example, the effect of the SD variation on the midlatitude ionosphere is analyzed.
