This paper shows that, as a result of self-gravitation, the electromagnetic field of an infinite charged thread increases to infinity at a finite distance from the thread and forms an insurmountable singularity. It is noted that similar objects with nonzero ambient magnetic fields are impossible in general relativity. The scalar field of a thread source is examined. It is found that, in contrast to an electromagnetic field, this scalar field is capable of destroying the oscillatory mode of approach to naked singularities and replaces it with a power-law mode. The effect of such fields on other Kasner-type naked singularities is also investigated.
