Results are presented from the November 1985 experimental campaign conducted at Sondre Stromfjord, Greenland to study the electrodynamics of auroral arcs at very high latitudes. Sondrestrom radar data are combined with HILAT data and DMSP imagery to study the latitudinal variations of auroral precipitation, electric fields, and field-aligned currents in a morning sector auroral event. The auroral arcs are of two types. The arcs in the diffuse aurora are the result of localized enhancements in the fluxes of electrons with energies between 5 and 10 keV. These arcs are embedded in a broad region of diffuse auroral precipitation. The arc segments are produced by enhanced fluxes of electrons between 100 eV and 1 keV. The electric fields are consistent with those deduced in previous studies. It is shown that the large-scale region 1 and 2 current systems are spatially related to the morphology of auroral ionization and electric fields.
