Field-aligned currents of magnetospheric origin have been identified in two regions along the auroral oval. The electric field of magnetospheric origin is of sufficient magnitude to influence electric fields of ionospheric origin at middle and low latitudes; thus the distribution of the electric fields of ionospheric origin may occasionally be reversed at middle latitudes. This reversal may result in anomalous solar quiet currents and electron drifts at middle latitudes.
