Dynamics Explorer B and Intercosmos-Bulgaria-1300 data are used to examine latitudinal drift profiles in the subauroral evening ionosphere which are associated with the instantaneous position of the diffuse aurora boundary (DAB). They are divided into two types: profiles which are a natural continuation of auroral convection, with no observed singularities when the DAB is crossed; and profiles in the case of which the velocity of auroral convection is strongly reduced at the DAB or polarward of it, while a new drift field develops equatorward of the DAB.
