Kinetic theory is used to examine perturbations induced in a rarefied plasma by a charged spherical body whose radius is much less than the Debye radius of the unperturbed plasma. Attention is given to the case when photoelectron emission occurs from the solar-illuminated part of the body. Calculations are made of the distribution of corrections, determined by the emission, to the electric-field potential and plasma ion and electron densities.
