In June of 2001, the NASA/HEDS-sponsored MATADOR (Mars Atmosphere And Dust in the Optical and Radio) team went to the Arizona desert to study the optical, fluid, and electrical properties of terrestrial dust devils. Their objective was to study the terrestrial events as an analog to the larger Martian dust devils and dust storms. We present the electrostatic and electromagnetic observations made during dust devil passages at a stationary base and observations obtained "in situ" on a mobile platform that followed the dust devils. Specifically, at the stationary base, DC E-field instruments, search coil magnetometers, HF radios and electrometers were all present to monitor triboelectric activity from the passing devils. While there are some previous reports of DC fields generated from devils, emissions at higher frequencies has not been previously monitored. On the mobile platform, electrometers, search coil magnetometers and HF radios measured activity as the platform became immersed within the devils. Since wind velocity, pressure, and temperature measurements, along with optical images, are available for the events, any electric/magnetic activity can be placed in context of the devil fluid and optical properties.
