We present spatially integrated visual spectroscopy of 3 regions in the Carina nebula. We confirmed an anomalous extinction law with R ~ 4.4. We derived the physical conditions and total abundances of O, N, S, Ar and Ne. Our 3 regions have lower abundances (~ 0.3 dex) compared to Orion's. The region containing Eta Car has higher (~ 0.3 dex) N/O and S/O ratios compared to the other 2 regions. The electron temperatures are over-estimated (by ~ 500K) if the spectra of the exciting stars are not excluded in the integrated spectrum. Photoionization models suggest that the observed spectrum is only reproduced by a juxtaposition of single-star excited HII regions. These results may be important for the analysis of extragalactic HII regions.
