The correlation analysis, usually carried out to study the temporal and spatial characteristics of the irregular diffraction pattern which a radio wave reflected from or transmitted by the ionosphere forms on the ground, yields certain parameters which may be used to describe these characteristics of the pattern. Errors arise in the values of the parameters due, solely, to sampling errors of correlation functions. These errors are studied, and it is found that their magnitudes are such that account should always be taken of the errors which are inherent in the correlation method of analysis.
